IFTF Foresight Talks: Using Virtual Reality to Immerse the U.S. Air Force in Alternative Futures Scenarios
Have you ever pre-experienced alternative futures scenarios in virtual reality? Join IFTF's conversation with Lt. Col. Jake Sotiriadis, Chief of the Strategic Foresight and Futures Branch at the U.S. Air Force, when we look at how he led a project to turn a futures report into a VR experience (teaser here) for stakeholders in the U.S. armed forces and beyond. We'll also discuss the lessons he's learned in making futures thinking a part of a bureaucratic organizational culture, why he fought so hard to make the VR scenarios unclassified, and how he believes the future of communication is moving toward VR.

Dr. Jake Sotiriadis is a global futurist and expert in intelligence and geopolitical risk. He is currently the United States Air Force's senior futurist at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, where he leads a team that advises the department's senior leaders in developing anticipatory thinking and breakthrough innovations.

He has served nearly two decades as an Air Force officer, with strategic portfolios that include: advisor to the US Ambassador to Germany, Deputy Chief of the Weapons & Space Division at National Security Agency Hawaii, and lead China planner in the Air Force’s strategy directorate.

He holds a Ph.D. in political science and geopolitical futures from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, a Master of Arts in international affairs from the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy at Tufts University, a Master of Philosophy in military strategy from the US Air Force’s School of Advanced Air & Space Studies, a Master of Military Operational Art & Science from the Air Command and Staff College, and a Bachelor of Arts in international studies from Norwich University.
